Thank you, Pranath, for this deep dive into how AI can help empower us, while most companies give up on us.

Using AI and automation is great because it embodies the leverage of the digital economy and makes money 24/4 without direct involvement.

I also love how you incorporated social and lifestyle shifts.

For the first time, people live entirely differently from generations before a certain age. I remember the times when being 40 was considered old. And now, people start new chapters in life and reinvent themselves in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond.

I have seen many changes, but even futurists never saw this coming.

Exactly this.

Change is disruptive, some things are lost, and others gained.

Overall I think we are better off and lost some limited choices and gained more possibilities and choice for all our lives 🙂

You are right.

Let's make the most of what we have.

Thanks for clarifying those options.

Great article. I use AI all the time as an assistant but you are taking it to the next level with your automations. And I agree with your stance on retirement - working until we are much older should be a choice. I’ve never understood why countries complain about the drain on the economy from pensions, but do nothing to normalize older people working.

Thanks for your kind words and yes Exactly we are not going to solve our challenges using 1 dimensional thinking when the challenge is 3D chess.

Yes the old world of work is in crisis, our beliefs around old age, our fears about AI, our demographic crisis, unsustainable pensions etc.

Yet solutions are in our grasp if we can look at these interconnected issues holistically, and be brave enough to use our creativity to make the solutions that are possible now.

Fear and outdated ideas are the real enemy!

Creativity is the way forward 🙂

I totally agree with the possibilities for solopreneurs. Although the learning curve and time needed to keep pace with developments is challenging. I wonder how many larger companies realise the possibilities too. That could also be a game changer and a different model for older workers to be employees or consultants.

Yes good point, I guess that’s another flip side of this new world, the idea of learning only when you’re young and skills for life is over, making more time for ongoing learning is essential to be able to thrive in this new world but the rewards are also significant, more freedom, choice, and a less boring later life!

In theory big opportunities for larger companies, in practice they seem as quick to adjust as the titanic was to avoid an iceberg.

I see smaller businesses as best positioned to be able to adapt and take most advantage.

Excellent article, Pranath! So many important macro and micro-level shifts covered. I love the idea of seeing the opportunity in the changes AI is generating, and how older workers can leverage AI to thrive. This is incredibly empowering!

Most people focus on just the tech, but you call out that how one interacts with the tech is a key factor. As you say, domain knowledge and communication skills, which older workers tend to have honed over the years, are important to leveraging the tech.

It's not about having to learn to code, but rather how to write good prompts that elicit the best info. And this ultimately relates to domain knowledge and communication. Thank you for pointing these things out!

Thanks for the kind words.

Change is disruptive, and can be frightening for many.

And AI is a powerful technology, that challenges our selves and how we think about our lives.

Our greatest hope for a better future I believe is in drawing on our greatest strength as humans, our creativity to imagine new better possibilities.

Those possibilities aren’t just dreams, they are real choices each of is can make today 🙂👌🏽
