5 Powerful Ways to Promote Yourself Every Day Without Coming Off as Salesy
Simple methods for 50 + solopreneurs I use
Most people fear self-promotion as being seen as too salesy or pushy.
But to make money online you must share your knowledge, unique approach, and skills.
Would you buy from someone you had never heard of?
The Internet allows you to share your ideas and skills with a global audience. But if you do not promote yourself online daily, you miss massive opportunities to grow your audience, network, and business.
Many people believe that posting everywhere and producing a lot of content is the best tactic. While this may help, it may also lead to burnout.
Focus on what works and what moves the needle.
I share five practical ways to promote yourself daily without being salesy.
Use CTAs in every type of content you create
A Call to Action (CTA) is a clear and short statement telling your readers what to do after reading your content. After providing content, you must tell your readers what to do next. Some examples:
Comment on a post
Press the notification button
Book the free consultation call
Click on the link to get a lead magnet
DM with a particular word for more information
Use it in every type of copy you produce:
Blog
Emails
Website
Newsletter
Social media
Landing page
Substack Notes
You don´t have to be a professional copywriter to create great CTAs. Keep it quick, simple, and straightforward about what they must do next.
That helps the engagement, providing your audience with solving their problems and growing your business.
If you do not do it, you leave the money on the table as your audience will go to someone else who promotes themselves efficiently.
Share your journey behind the scenes
The world loves the winners, and we tend to show the best version of ourselves, especially when you want to grow your online business. But anyone who has achieved anything knows that success is not straightforward.
So, show them your prototypes and early versions of your services, landing pages, products, processes, systems, or systems, and ask them to a personal workshop.
How did you get to where you are now? Show what you've learned.
For example, I have been writing for years and used to run four blogs (two on Blogger, one on Tumbler, and one on WordPress) without making a cent.
For most people, it looks like a failure, but I have learned along the way many essential skills in a digital economy:
Writing
Email automation
Creating websites
Building an email list
Making landing pages
Writing converting copy
Social media management
Writing engaging newsletters
Making irresistible lead magnets
People want to know the truth about the reality of building a one-person business, not the picture-perfect image. You do not have to master all of them, but you must be good enough to succeed.
Don't always be selling
Self-promotion does not mean selling your offers every day. Promote your:
Image
Values
Stories
Opinions
Personal Brand
Some people will get annoyed by your self-promotions, but don't worry. It's part of the game. The right people will connect with you.
Promote yourself shamelessly, as it is your duty to educate others on how you can help others.
Don´t be afraid to state strong opinions
Nobody wants to connect with someone who always plays safe and sounds like everyone else.
You must mobilize around your values and a common enemy to create a solid personal brand. People are drawn to those who have strong beliefs. But don´t polarize people for the sake of it. Leave it to politicians and extremists.
I take the opposite approach toward having a predesigned life based on societal expectations.
I am all about having choices and freedom in life. This leads to heated debates because most people follow the crowd and feel threatened by my personal values.
Not everyone will agree with you, and that is fine. The right people will come.
Attract your ideal audience with a newsletter
Convert Kit's 2024 State of the Creator Economy revealed that newsletters and emails are the most popular content.
But even if you are not a content creator, you should have a newsletter. An email list is your most crucial business asset. About 8—100 % of revenue comes from a newsletter.
Your newsletter will suck at first, but you should do it anyway. I made many mistakes when I ran my first newsletter, but this is part of the process.
Focus on creating headlines that entice your readers to open an email and make content relevant.
You must know and understand your target audience inside out and write about:
Pains
Needs
Dreams
Problems
Aspirations
How you help them transform their life
There are many writing newsletter frameworks like:
PAS (Problem, Agitation, Solution)
ASDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action)
The 5Ws (Who, What, When, Where, Why)
It is good to know all of them, but all you need to know to write an engaging newsletter is to help people overcome their specific problems and add some personality.
Become the best solution for them.
Summary
Most people are afraid of self-promotion. But this is the only way to get noticed and grow business.
Nobody buys from invisible solopreneurs.
People buy from people they like, know, and trust.
You can promote yourself every day without being salesy by:
Don´t always be selling (promote your values, stories, image, personal brand)
Use CTAs in every type of content you create ( clear and short statements telling your readers what to do after reading your content.)
Sharing your journey behind the scenes (how did you get where you are and don´t be afraid of talking about failures)
Don´t be scared to state strong opinions (people do not follow someone wishy-washy. Be authentic and share your true colors)
Build a community around your newsletter (attract your crowd and become a solution to their problems)
It can be overwhelming at first, but it is really simple. Most people overcomplicate everything, and everyone's solopreneurship journey is slightly different.

P.S.
Please share your favorite ways of self-promotion without being too salesy.
Nicely presented, and helpful. I must remind myself of the 'every day' bit.
And because as women we have been placed in continuous and diminished positions, i’ll add
“if you think you are promoting too much, you aren’t, that’s conditioning.”
